Transformation of a residence into an exotic flower shop
Tokyo based studio KIAS renovated an existing residence into a lush flower shop. ‘sorcery dressing ephemeral’ in daikanyama, Tokyo is located near shibuya at the leisurely neighborhood surrounded by café, restaurants, and high brand fashion stores. the existing two-story concrete building was originally used as a residence and is now transformed into a flower shop for a florist known for arranging exotic flowers. the water fountain finished with green mosaic tiles sits adjacent to the entrance serving freshwater for vases of various sizes every day.

They sought to reflect the experimental spirit of the florist by applying materials in their distinctive features such as transparency of glass partition, blackened stainless steel working counter, raw steel sliding door, dark cedar flooring, and hand-blown glass pendant light. natural daylight pierces the space bringing light to the plants and flowers and reflecting their colors on the light grey wall and ceilings. in the staircase of the atrium where natural light falls, ivy plants rise up and connect the view to the upper floor space. the interior design is carefully constructed by selecting only natural materials so that beautiful exotic flowers can shine in various colors.
