GJAKOVA on EUROPAN
Gjakova as one of the major cities of Kosovo is going through spatial transitions, which leave it open to improvement but also degradation. A big issue to this city is the interconnection between the old part of the city which mainly consist of “Çarshinë e Madhe” and the new one which includes street “Nena Tereze” and a part of “Qarshia e Vogel”. To prevent concessions that might happen by opening a national public tender or local one, the Municipality of Gjakova has taken a step further by participating in the international competition EUROPAN 2015.
Therefore to archive contacts and come to a Memorandum of Understanding, a meeting has been held between the Major of the Municipality of Gjakova, Mimoza Kusari-Lila and the head representative of this organization Ilir Gjinolli. Presentation of this par ticipation has also been made in the Assembly Hall of Gjakova on 27.08.2014, revealing competition entry conditions. The part of the city which the Municipality of Gjakova competes is, along the river Krena, from Islam Begu-s Bridge to Namazgjarhis Bridge (The Bazaar).
Mimoza Kusari-Lila has claimed that this project will increase the functionality of space, and as a development program will encourage public-private partnerships as well as private ones, especially at “Çarshia e Madhe”. As for the cost estimation of the project, it will size a value of 60 thousand euros.
On the other hand Ilir Gjinolli, has explained the process of competing and announced some conditions relating the competition. One of the conditioned mentioned during our interview is the age limit of participants (less than 40 years old). As for the process, after enclosure, results will be announced of the conceptual projects. These results revealed on November 2015, can hold competitors of more than 20 countries.
“It is important for a Municipality to present itself at a European forum, developing an environment of European level competition” said Ilir Gjinolli.
