Batten and Kamp Turns an Orchid Vase Into a Walking Object

A vase usually stays where it is placed. Batten and Kamp’s Beauty Seeker Seeker gives that familiar object legs, turning a single orchid into a moving presence.

The physical prototype combines a custom vase with an existing six-legged robot. The delicate flower rises above a mechanical body whose spreading legs give it a creature-like stance. Its interest lies in that meeting of scales: the small, fragile bloom above and the broader apparatus carrying it below.

Movement changes the relationship between the object and the room. A flower can normally be passed without notice; a walking vase occupies the space around a person and brings the act of looking into the work itself. The object becomes an experiment in how design can draw attention to something that might otherwise remain still and peripheral.

Featured in September 2026, Beauty Seeker Seeker is presented as an experimental work rather than a retail product. Its original design year has not been confirmed.
