Pinewood Houses Give Two Homes Room to Breathe

Two homes share a pine-covered setting near the beach on Spain’s Costa Brava. Completed in 2026, Pinewood Houses by NOMO STUDIO uses a staggered arrangement to give each dwelling its own views and outdoor space.

The important decision happens at the scale of the site. The houses do not sit directly opposite one another. Their positions are offset, reducing the sense of looking into a neighbour’s rooms and allowing longer views through the garden.

Each building has a simple rectangular volume and a compact footprint. The plans combine an open living, dining and kitchen area with four double bedrooms. Although the basic layouts are symmetrical, the entrances, openings, terraces and pools are adjusted to suit each home’s orientation.

The facades distinguish the ground floor from the level above. Thick surrounds give the lower openings depth, while finer vertical details define the upper windows. A textured, two-tone brown finish connects the buildings visually with the surrounding pine trunks.

Outdoor rooms extend the interiors. A light metal-and-timber pergola shades the terrace, and the paving continues around the pool. These elements make a clear sequence between enclosed living space, covered outdoor space and garden.

The interior photographs show pale walls, continuous concrete floors and built-in furniture. Wardrobes and desks are integrated into the rooms, keeping the main spaces relatively uncluttered. A cantilevered metal staircase introduces a sharper structural element within this restrained palette.

The project’s value lies in the small adjustments made within a repeated design. The homes share a language, but each responds to its particular position. This makes the pair more useful as a housing example than two identical objects placed without regard to one another.
