Prishtina’s New Science Faculty Brings Five Departments into a Shared Campus Building
The University of Prishtina’s new Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences was inaugurated on 2 October 2026, giving five scientific departments dedicated premises in Kosovo’s capital. Its architectural task brings together two different needs: specialised rooms for research and shared places where academic life can extend beyond the laboratory.
Urban+ lists the architectural design in its portfolio with a 2022 date and an estimated gross area of 13,400 square metres. Mathematics, physics, geography, chemistry and biology form the programme, supported by laboratories, a large library, teaching rooms and spaces for collaboration.
The cover rendering presents a stepped composition, with a tall, glazed volume articulated by red vertical elements above an open ground-level zone. Lower wings extend from it, breaking the institution’s scale into distinct volumes. This image records the design intention; it is not a photograph of the completed building.

The 2022 presentation boards arrange common spaces at ground level, mathematics above, physics and geography together on the next floor, followed by biology and chemistry. The March 2026 construction photograph records a multi-level interior with balconies and glazed room fronts, making the shared circulation visible across floors.
The planning process also matters. Urban+ describes workshops involving students, professors, administrative staff and specialists to establish users’ needs. For a faculty combining five disciplines, that process connects the brief to the everyday demands of teaching, research and shared facilities.
UNOPS reports a green roof, solar panels and energy-efficient systems, alongside accessibility measures and a room for breastfeeding mothers and young children. The surrounding landscape adds green study areas, sports facilities and play spaces, extending the project into the life of the campus and neighbouring community.
Urban+ identifies itself as the design studio and UNOPS as the implementing organisation. The university’s inauguration report additionally credits UNOPS with design and supervision. Together, these accounts document a project developed through the studio, university and delivery organisation, with EU and Kosovo institutional funding.

The project was inaugurated in 2026; its design predates that opening. The cover visualization originates from UNOPS project documentation. Further information comes from Urban+’s portfolio, the 2 October 2026 UNOPS release, the university’s opening report, its 2022 design presentation and the Faculty of Architecture’s construction visit. Individual image-makers are not identified in those university and UNOPS galleries.
