A former quarry becomes a hotel in Shanghai
The InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland hotel has opened in China on a site that was formerly a quarry.
The hotel has 336 rooms and is approximately 33 kilometres from the city centre. Construction took ten years. Of its 18 storeys, 16 lie below ground level, including two underwater levels.
Guests encounter an unusual architectural setting, glass walkways and views across the resort.
