Utrecht expands its bicycle parking

The Netherlands is building what it describes as the world’s largest bicycle parking facility.

The facility has opened in Utrecht. Users can park with a pass or pay by the day.

At the time of this report, it had space for 6,000 bicycles. A further 1,500 spaces were due to be added the following month, with capacity expected to reach 12,500 the following year.

The wider ambition was to create a bicycle parking hub with 22,000 spaces.

The facility would be accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

People without their own bicycle could rent one of 700 bicycles made available for hire.
