A floating hotel in Qatar designed to rotate every 24 hours

Supported by floating platforms intended to protect it from rough water, the hotel would be accessible by a pier, boats or helicopter.

The 2021 report described a rotating luxury hotel in Qatar designed to generate its own electricity through solar, wind and tidal energy.

The ring-shaped building would use solar panels and wind turbines to produce clean energy, while its swirling roof would collect rainwater to irrigate vegetation.

The circular, 130,000-square-metre structure would contain a 2,000-square-metre central hall and 152 rooms around its perimeter, each with a private balcony overlooking the water.

Views would gradually change as the entire hotel completed one rotation every 24 hours, at a pace intended to be imperceptible to guests.

A series of floating platforms would support the structure and protect it from rough water. Access would be provided by a pier, boats or helicopter.

At the time of the report, Qatar was accelerating new accommodation construction in anticipation of approximately 1.5 million sports visitors for the following year’s World Cup.

Among other arrangements for the event, Qatar had booked two large cruise ships with a combined capacity of 4,000 cabins to be moored off Doha.
